Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots | S/T Alternative Tentacles / Smooch Records The packaging itself tells you absolutely NOTHING about this band, except for that it’s made by 3 guys and 3 girls. The music on this CD is nothing short of brilliant, with great instrumentation, and vocal layering. Song for song the sound changes, and the instruments change. The music itself is mostly slower, quiet type stuff, with acoustic guitars, violins, brushes on the drums, and eerily sang vocals somewhat similar to Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Morrissey, or something along those lines. Something strikes me very strange about this band, maybe it’s the song about Munly’s parents being vampires, or the eclectic movement they throw at you each track. I don’t know. I think I might call this experimental country bluegrass. I think the songs are very mood oriented, and are somewhat depressing to me. I have to give it to them though, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything like this before. The 3 girls singing backup vocals are fucking awesome, and there are some tracks on here that are just priceless. --MB Alternative Tentacles PO Box 419092 San Fran, CA 94141 / Smooch Records

| a.)please tell me what happened in as many words as you'd like. When did you really feel like the Kenmores needed to come to an end? Why? |
| First of all let me say that I never ever wanted this to end. This was my life my project it kept me out of school, out of real jobs, out of a family life and out of many other' normal' life things. I threw everything I had into this and to see it crumble was not an easy thing, so I’m not really sure I can say that I ever wanted it to come to an end. The truth is however, the feeling that I SHOULD end the band known as the Kenmores started nagging me over a year ago. When Rex first told me he was quitting the band I knew right then and there that the end was beginning. Without him, it would never be the same. But I’m very stubborn and I didn't want it to end. As the other 'original' members started to break way (Shane, then Nic) it became more and more evident that the end was near. I LOVED my time with Jiles and Hank but it wasn't the same. We tried very hard to make it work but in the end it just ended up being a totally different band and that's why we decided to end it. Hank expressed interest in moving over to guitar and writing different material and at that point I knew that the time had come to officially end it. There are also a million different tiny reasons why this band didn't last longer than it did. Rex got involved with Octavious, gettingalong with each other while on tour became more and more difficult, labels were not interested in us at all despite our work ethic and our results in our hometown and region so it started to seem hopeless to the other guys who weren't quite as hard-headed as me... |
